Alex was born in Oregon, the youngest of three girls in a military family. After her father retired from the coast guard, her family settled in Northern Idaho, her father’s roots.
Growing up in Coeur d’Alene, her favorite activities included swimming and rock jumping in Lake Coeur d’Alene, Girl Scout Camp, windsurfing, mountain hiking, snow- skiing and snowmobiling, and every sport she could try-out for. In high school, she participated in basketball, volleyball, and softball, moving to Pensacola after high school to attend the University of West Florida on a softball scholarship.
When her college softball career wrapped up in 2005, she found a new passion in yoga and quickly developed a love for her mat and practice.
Still attending UWF, her path as a teacher began with Dominique and
John Harding’s inspirational and challenging training courses and she became certified through FitTour’s Yoga Instructor program in 2006.
Her first yoga teaching experience was for the G-Pac children’s swim team, where she loved the kids’ enthusiasm for the poses and routines and flexible energetic nature. Soon she began teaching at gyms such as Omni, Pensacourt and World Gym, and she settled in at the downtown YMCA shortly after meeting fellow yoga instructor and now great friend Angela Huntsinger, from whom she derives much of her passion and yoga wisdom.
Alex has been teaching at the YMCA since 2007 and continues to share her passion for yoga there as she joins Fish Tree Yoga under Jan’s direction. Alex is enthusiastic and energetic and brings passion into all aspects of her life including her yoga classes. She will continue to train and attend workshops on her path to becoming certified in Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga at Fish Tree.
Alex is newlywed to her amazing husband, George, who she met playing softball. They live in Pensacola with their two Dachshunds, Stitch and Cody, and new kitty Sarge. Along with yoga and softball, Alex enjoys golf, rock climbing, scuba diving, traveling, NFL football, and enjoys any new athletic or physical activity she can try. |
